The Office of International Education will be hiring several student assistants to assist OIE in welcoming over 1,500 new international students to Georgia Tech for the Fall 2022 semester. There are several positions available for Welcome Series Student Assistants. All Georgia Tech students (international and non-international) are welcome and encouraged to apply.

Welcome Series Assistants must be available between July 25th – September 2nd to work 20 hours per week with additional hours available between August 22nd through September 2. Welcome Series Assistants will be paid $11/hr. Please note that this position does not include a tuition waiver or housing.

 

Welcome Series Assistant duties:·  Act as a liaison between academic departments and OIE· Provide resources and information for new students· Assist with Welcome Series sessions and events· Assist new students with OIE Check-In· Work with advisors on special projects related to OIE functional areas (technology and data, student and scholar activities, administrative support)· Other duties as assigned

Job Opportunity- Staff Geotechnical Engineer

Geosyntac Consultants is looking to hire a staff geotechnical engineer in their new Detroit, MI office. Fieldwork would be a big part of the job requirement (60% of time or so) within the first couple of years.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Some of the key responsibilities you will immediately have in this position include:

  • Conducting geotechnical field investigations;
  • Monitoring civil construction projects;
  • Performing and reviewing engineering calculations;
  • Design and permitting for landfills and coal combustion residual units;
  • Dam and levee evaluations; and
  • Writing and reviewing engineering reports.

Some other aspects about this position:

  • Training: This position requires OSHA health and safety, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. We also offer professional development opportunities including in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our professionals to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants.
  • Fieldwork: Up to 60%
  • Overnight travel: Up to 25%

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil and/or environmental engineering with a focus in geotechnical engineering. (required)
  • Advanced degree in geotechnical engineering. (preferred)

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior internship or work experience in engineering consulting. (preferred)
  • Experience with geotechnical and engineering software such as AutoCAD and Slope/W or Slide. (preferred)
  • 40-hr HAZWOPER training (preferred)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)

  • Project Management Intern Project Management Intern  Assists and supports the Project Engineer, Project Manager and Superintendent on assigned projects. The position works under direct supervision, performs routine daily administrative activities and gathers and distributes information. The Project Intern must be a flexible and adaptable team-player, as well as have strong communication and organizational skills.   • Estimating Intern Estimating Intern. Estimate, including assisting with quantity take-offs, sublist management and subcontractor contact, research on various systems and products, studies and comparisons, document management, and keeping accurate records. Ensure that the estimating process runs smoothly and efficiently and client expectations are exceeded throughout the duration of the project(s).· Build relationships to understand client, designer and subcontractor needs and expectations.

    · Analyze drawings, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimate for projects.

    · Prepare quantity take-offs and apply unit pricing for material and labor to establish a value for the work.

    · Effectively communicate with all stakeholders.

    · Prepare qualifications and assumptions for the estimate.

    · Prepare cost comparisons/reconcile with previous estimates

  • M/E/P Intern MEP Internship. The M/E/P Intern will:· Assist in preparation of design and construction documents and solutions to general MEP or sustainable design issues.

    · Check and coordinate details and dimensions.

    · Perform basic drafting work.

    · Compute and compile engineering data from prescribed sources.

    · Research and recommend solutions to design document problems, including conflicts, interferences and errors.
