Call for Applications – Interdisciplinary PhD Workshop in Sustainable Development 2023 at Columbia University

Columbia University’s Sustainable Development Doctoral Society is pleased to announce the fourteenth Interdisciplinary PhD Workshop in Sustainable Development (IPWSD), to be held in an hybrid format on March 24-25, 2023.The workshop is targeted at PhD candidates who seek feedback on their research. Participants should expect to present for 20 minutes with plenty of room for discussion. Students in the dissertation stage of their PhD will be given priority for presentation slots, though advanced masters students and post-docs are also encouraged to apply. Some slots will also be available for participants who do not wish to present but who are likely to provide valuable feedback to presenters. In the past, participants have included students from university departments in economics, earth and environmental sciences, ecology, political science, engineering, epidemiology, and geography. Besides presentations, there will be at least one keynote address by a leading researcher in the field of sustainable development (TBA), as well as a roundtable discussion on the challenges and chances of interdisciplinary work.

There is no fee for participating in the event and light breakfast & lunches will be provided. This year, we are pleased to be able to offer a limited number of need-based travel scholarships in line with the Sustainable Development Doctoral Society’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse academic community. For up to 10 participants we can support expenses for bus, train, and flight tickets with up to $500. Please indicate in the application form if you wish to be considered for need-based travel funding to allow your in-person participation.

Applications for IPWSD 2023 are now open. Please submit your application by filling out the online form by January 22, 2023, 23:59 EST. All applicants will be notified of the final decision regarding their application by the beginning of February 2023. We look forward to seeing you in New York,

Registration is Open for the Fall 2022 Dissertation Accelerator

Dissertation Accelerator

The event runs from Monday, December 12th through Friday, December 16th from 10am to 5pm daily and students can participate in person or by Zoom. The goal of the event is to provide dedicated time to get a lot of writing done, and everyone gets access to goal-setting and accountability groups, daily workshops, and support from the Communication Center’s Professional Consultants. We host the event in the faculty work space in Price Gilbert Library, so in-person participants also have access to coffee and snacks, a kitchen, and a variety of places to work throughout the day.

PhD candidates at any stage of the process are welcome to participate—whether working on their proposals or polishing and formatting the final draft. Should we not be able to accommodate everyone who registers to participate in person, we will give preference to first-time participants and those who plan to defend and graduate in spring or summer 2023.  More information about the Accelerator and the link to register can be found here: https://www.communicationcenter.gatech.edu/workshops

If you have question about the event or registration, you can email us at commlab@gatech.edu. Registration will close one week prior to the event start, on December 5th, after which participants will receive the event schedule and links to join remotely.
