Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Structural Engineering and Mechanics
Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering

The Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) at North Carolina
State University (NCSU) expects to fill a position in the area of Structural Engineering and
Mechanics. We seek candidates in the area of innovative structural systems and materials with
strong domain expertise who have a demonstrated interest in working with colleagues within other
areas of civil engineering (and/or across other disciplines) to be responsive to emerging research
questions aimed at the betterment of civil infrastructure.

Successful candidates should be able to participate in multidisciplinary initiatives to support the
missions of the department and the college. While we expect to hire at the assistant professor level,
outstanding applicants at all ranks are encouraged to apply.

An earned doctorate degree in civil engineering or a closely related field is required. Post-doctoral
experience, professional experience, and a professional engineering license are desirable, but not
required.

We are seeking colleagues to join a vibrant department with 49 faculty members, over 700
undergraduates and 340 graduate students. The CCEE department and laboratories have moved to a
new building (Fitts-Woolard Hall) with all new laboratories on NCSU’s Centennial Campus. We
seek candidates who are able to develop and maintain a nationally recognized and externally funded
research program within their area of expertise, teach graduate and undergraduate courses, and
collaborate across disciplines.

sustainability, high-throughput materials discovery, and surface functionalization, and AI/data science

Purpose
• Catalyze and cultivate excellence in graduate level research in strategic growth areas relevant to
Novelis and Georgia Tech.
• Connect top students and their thesis advisors with Novelis scientists and engineers to learn
about their research and explore collaboration and engagement opportunities.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria
• Open to students pursuing M.S. and Ph.D. degrees with their thesis research focused on one of
the following areas of relevance to Novelis: 1) Sustainable design, processes, and business
practices, 2) High-throughput materials discovery, 3) Surface functionalization/modification
technologies, and 4) AI/Data Science applications in materials/manufacturing/supply chains.
• Emphasis on research and academic excellence.
• Students who enhance diversity and inclusion initiatives at both Georgia Tech and Novelis are
strongly encouraged to apply.

Recognition
• $7,500 award (topping grant) for the 2021-2022 Academic Year
• “Spend a day at NGRTC”
o Present a Novelis Scholar Invited Lecture on research accomplishments during the year
of the award to Novelis R&D Scientists and Engineers at the Novelis Global Research &
Technology Center (NGRTC) in Kennesaw, GA
o NGRTC Lab Tour

related topics

Tenure Track Positions in Geotechnical Engineering at Ohio State

We are excited to announce openings for two tenure-track faculty positions in Geotechnical Engineering at The Ohio State University. 

These searches come at an exciting time when the University and the College of Engineering are under new leadership with a bold vision to spread opportunity more widely through academic excellence and a culture of inclusiveness.  These efforts build upon a strong foundation to ensure OSU faculty are supported as they launch and sustain their careers, including through the College of Engineering Faculty Mentor Program, the Drake Institute of Teaching and Learning Teaching Support and Teaching Endorsement programs, and the wide variety of employee-led networking and affinity groups.  In addition, the location of Ohio State in the culturally vibrant city of Columbus, OH offers activities for all interests.

Areas of interest broadly include, but are not limited to smart sustainable geo-systems; geo-hazard sensing and modeling; risk and resilience of geo-systems; energy foundations; ground improvement; geosynthetics; geoenvironmental engineering; coastal geotechnics; biogeotechnics; and areas at the intersection of geotechnical engineering and infrastructure equity.  Methodologies of interest include, but are not limited to, geomechanics and advanced physics-based computational modeling; characterization of properties and phenomena by experimental, in-situ testing, remote sensing and geophysical methods; and advanced data science/analytics in geotechnics.  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to complement existing department strengths around climate alterations and resilience, public health exposure of the built environment, energy systems management, and data collection and analytics.  Positions are full-time (9-month), beginning August 2022.
