Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Structural Engineering and Mechanics
Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering

The Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) at North Carolina
State University (NCSU) expects to fill a position in the area of Structural Engineering and
Mechanics. We seek candidates in the area of innovative structural systems and materials with
strong domain expertise who have a demonstrated interest in working with colleagues within other
areas of civil engineering (and/or across other disciplines) to be responsive to emerging research
questions aimed at the betterment of civil infrastructure.

Successful candidates should be able to participate in multidisciplinary initiatives to support the
missions of the department and the college. While we expect to hire at the assistant professor level,
outstanding applicants at all ranks are encouraged to apply.

An earned doctorate degree in civil engineering or a closely related field is required. Post-doctoral
experience, professional experience, and a professional engineering license are desirable, but not
required.

We are seeking colleagues to join a vibrant department with 49 faculty members, over 700
undergraduates and 340 graduate students. The CCEE department and laboratories have moved to a
new building (Fitts-Woolard Hall) with all new laboratories on NCSU’s Centennial Campus. We
seek candidates who are able to develop and maintain a nationally recognized and externally funded
research program within their area of expertise, teach graduate and undergraduate courses, and
collaborate across disciplines.

seek candidates with demonstrated strengths in infrastructure development and protection and/or sustainable
energy. Specific areas of interest include 1) multi-hazard assessment and risk mitigation for resilient
infrastructure, 2) development of smart, sensing-enabled, sustainable civil engineering systems, and 3)
network-level performance monitoring via big data analytics, sensor development, and remote sensing. We
