Sky Happiness Retreat

If you haven’t seen it yet, SKY Club at Georgia Tech is having one of its flagship retreats this weekend. Take a break to learn powerful evidence based breathwork and experience deep meditation that you can practice at home. Everyone is welcome to join!

The course fee is fully funded for Georgia Tech students by Mental Health Joint Allocation Committee at Georgia Tech. We require a commitment fee from you that will be refunded after attending all 3 sessions. We also request you to register by tomorrow, so we can cater to all those are planning to join for the retreat. 

Schedule: 

March 1st – 6:30pm to 9:30pm

March 2nd and 3rd – 10 am to 2pm (includes Lunch)

SKY Happiness Retreat is a comprehensive wellness program taught over three days that trains participants in the evidence-based SKY meditation practice, breathwork, yoga, social connection, and mindful leadership. SKY has been shown to significantly benefit six well-being outcomes – depression, stress, mental health, mindfulness, positive affect, and social connectedness compared to state-of-the-art well-being interventions*.

SKY Breath Meditation is a powerful tool to de-stress, energize the mind and body, helps one manage emotions effortlessly, and be more productive and happier in every aspect of life. In addition to a take home breathwork and meditation technique, participants discover how to connect with others and find a deeper purpose through engaging interpersonal exercises and service initiatives to increase self-esteem, social connection, positive relationships, practical soft skills, the mindset of responsibility, and skills for effective leadership.

Georgia Environmental Scholarship Opportunity

The GEC Student Scholarship Program provides college students the unique opportunity to showcase their research on timely environmental issues and network with a wide range of environmental professionals from throughout the Southeast and beyond.

Finalists are invited to attend the Georgia Environmental Conference (August 21-23, 2024 | Jekyll Island) and present their research via a poster session. Finalists are granted full conference registration, and three nights lodging. Finalists are expected to provide their own travel to and from the conference. Additional Eligibility & Conditions are listed at the link below.

Multiple $1,500 scholarships may be awarded after the final round of judging at the conference. In addition to the monetary award, scholarship recipients will be recognized on the conference website, and will be offered a complimentary registration for the Georgia Environmental Conference for the following year.

STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP OVERVIEW

In my experience competing as a student, this is a prime opportunity to meet potential employers. I myself came out of the conference with three interviews. I also found that receiving feedback on my research from practicing engineers was incredibly valuable in looking at my research results differently.

Environmental Engineering and Science Foundation Scholarships

The Environmental Engineering and Science Foundation (EESF) has created eight annual scholarships for students majoring in Environmental Engineering and Environmental Science at the Master’s level.

EESF Master’s Degree Scholarships in Environmental Engineering and Science

Five scholarships in the amount of $2,500 each are offered to students completing undergraduate degree programs at accredited four-year institutions. Applicants must have been accepted to enter an accredited graduate program to complete a Master’s Degree either in Environmental Engineering or related field of engineering or Environmental Science or related field (as discussed in the FAQs). These scholarships are based on academic performance.

EESF Master’s Degree Scholarships in Environmental Engineering and Science for Under-Represented Minority (URM) Students

These three scholarships are identical to those described above for Master’s degree candidates but are available to students who self-identify as American Indian/Alaska Native, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander. The URM category will include individuals who identify two or more affiliations if at least one of their affiliations is one of these groups. Details, FAQs, and application forms can be found at: https://www.eesfoundation.org/scholarship/.

Fellowship for Recent PhDs at DARPA

DARPA recently launched the Innovation Fellowship, a 2-year on-site position for early career scientists (within 5 years of defending). Fellows develop and manage a portfolio of high-risk, high-impact exploratory efforts to identify breakthrough technologies for the Department of Defense.

We’re eager to spread the word about this program, and would appreciate your help in passing along the attached information to current and former graduate students who may be interested, or posting it on department job boards. This is a unique opportunity for scientists to make meaningful contributions while advancing their careers, broadening their research experience outside the laboratory, and engaging with leaders in industry, academia, government, and entrepreneurial circles.
