The position is expected to be filled at the Assistant Professor rank; however, higher ranks may be considered with appropriate qualifications. Successful candidates must demonstrate potential for developing a strong externally funded research program. Candidates with research interests in all areas of structural engineering and mechanics will be considered. The School is especially interested in candidates that can collaborate strategically with current expertise within the department to address research areas including, but not limited to, resilient infrastructure systems, engineering for natural and man-made hazards, sustainable and interconnected systems, bio-inspired materials and structures, and smart and revolutionary materials. Candidates will have the opportunity to utilize the Bert Cooper Engineering Research Laboratory, a 33,000 ft2 state-of-the-art structural engineering and materials engineering research laboratory with 6,000 ft2 strong floor high bay testing area (ceat.okstate.edu/cive/research/bert-cooper/index.html). Candidates will also have access to the High-Performance Computing Center (https://hpcc.okstate.edu).

The successful candidate must have an academic background to teach undergraduate courses in structural engineering and engineering mechanics in the Civil Engineering curriculum, as well as offer new and/or existing graduate courses in their area of expertise. A Ph.D. and undergraduate degree in, or closely related to, Civil and Environmental Engineering is required. It is expected that candidates can become licensed as a Professional Engineer within 6 years of appointment.

Candidates must demonstrate potential for developing a strong externally funded research program with a focus in one or more of the following areas: adaptive and resilient infrastructure, environmental sustainability, resource recovery and/or reuse (the circular economy), climate and/or disaster resiliency, sustainable development, and humanitarian engineering.

Oklahoma State University is located in Stillwater, Oklahoma, approximately 60 miles from both Oklahoma City and Tulsa. The School currently has 13 faculty members, 241 undergraduate students, and 58 graduate students. The School is a unique blend of teaching and research excellence. Research expenditures were $3 million in 2019 or approximately $200,000 per faculty member. The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Christian Brothers University seeks a dynamic and creative educator for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor (Tenure-Track) in Civil Engineering, with an emphasis in Environmental Engineering and Water Resources. The successful candidate will be able to develop and teach courses in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Site Assessment, Wastewater Treatment, Hydraulics, Hydrology, and associated laboratories.  Experience in teaching courses related to Air Pollution Control is desirable.

The B.S. in Civil Engineering is one of four ABET-accredited degree programs offered by the Gadomski School of Engineering at CBU. The faculty member is expected to teach other engineering services courses related to Civil Engineering, depending on departmental needs.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain teaching excellence in a full teaching load each semester.
  • Advise civil engineering students and seniors in their projects.
  • Develop a research program which generates external funding and leads to scholarly publications.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop a research program which engages undergraduate civil engineering students.
  • Serve on school and university committees.
  • Advise Civil Engineering Student Competitions.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering.
  • Proficiency in Environmental and Water Resources Engineering curricula.
  • Excellence in teaching ability at the undergraduate level and ability to engage students in undergraduate research.
  • Ability to initiate and develop new programs/concentrations in civil engineering, and pursue applied research and innovations to support current and future industry demands in civil engineering.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • P.E. license or ability to obtain a P.E. license before applying for promotion or tenure.

Preferred Qualities:

  • Prior teaching experience at a primarily undergraduate institution.
  • Prior experience in externally funded applied research in Environmental or Water Resources Engineering.
  • Proficiency with current laboratory instrumentation in Environmental and Water Resources Engineering.
  • P.E. License.
