M.E. Rinker, Sr. School of Construction Management
The M.E. Rinker, Sr. School of Construction Management in the College of Design,
Construction and Planning at the University of Florida invites applications for one ninemonth tenure-track faculty position in sustainable, resilient, and smart built
environments and infrastructure beginning in the fall of 2022.
The appointment is expected to be made at the assistant professor level. Required
· a doctoral degree in a related field, and
· a proven ability to disseminate research findings.
Expected credentials include:
· relevant academic and industry experience appropriate for the area of expertise, and
· university-level teaching in a core construction management area.
In addition, the candidate should demonstrate the potential to attract nationallycompetitive research grants, engage in multi-disciplinary research, and be motivated to
collaborate with other faculty across the College of Design, Construction and Planning
and within other colleges in the University of Florida. The successful faculty candidate
will be expected to develop funded research programs that align with the research
interests of the Powell Center, publish in peer-reviewed journals, supervise graduate
student research, teach undergraduate courses in core construction management
topic(s) and graduate courses that support the Master’s and Doctoral programs, and
provide service to the University, the community, and the profession. The salary and

The Powell Center for Construction and Environment, formed in 1991, is a leader in
sustainable construction pedagogy and research. The mission of the Powell Center for
Construction and Environment is to foster the implementation of sustainability principles
into the creation of the built environment. The research interests of the Powell Center
include advances in construction methods and productivity for sustainability; emerging
low carbon buildings and materials; health and equity; water resources, biodiversity, life
cycle assessment of the built infrastructure; and advances in modeling including artificial
intelligence approaches and uncertainty propagation and evaluation. The Powell Center
currently has 8 undergraduate and graduate research assistants, post-docs, and visiting
scholars, and 3 affiliated faculty.
The Rinker School is one of the oldest academic units on the University of Florida
campus. Located within the College of Design, Construction and Planning, the Rinker
School was established in 1935, making it the first building construction program in the
U.S. and, in 1975, the first to receive accreditation from the American Council for
Construction Education (ACCE). The Rinker School has a long history of excellence in
education and research, and strong bonds with its alumni. The Rinker School has 30 fulltime faculty members, and offers Bachelor of Science, Master’s, and PhD degree
programs in Construction Management and Fire and Emergency Services.
The College of Design, Construction and Planning is multi-disciplinary, and includes
undergraduate and graduate programs in Architecture, Historic Preservation, Interior
Design, Landscape Architecture, Sustainability and the Built Environment, and Urban and
Regional Planning. It is also home to several interdisciplinary research centers that focus
on community and landscape planning, geographical information system-based research,
health and the built environment, resilience, sea level rise, and sustainable construction.
