The successful candidate must have extensive professional experience in construction management/engineering. The position will commence in Spring 2022 or Fall 2022.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in construction management/engineering related courses.
  • Teach general engineering, advise students, and mentor capstone design students.
  • Develop and teach online courses in construction management/engineering.
  • Perform service at the professional, program, departmental, college and university.

Assistant Professor Position in Pavement Infrastructure and Geomaterials
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Florida A&M University – Florida State
University (FAMU-FSU) joint College of Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track assistant
professor position in Geomaterials and Geotechnical Engineering. The successful candidate’s expertise is
expected to complement and strengthen existing faculty research and teaching in civil and environmental
engineering. Applicants should have expertise in one or more areas of geomaterials engineering, including
but not limited to:

• Advanced pavement materials such as design and characterization of asphalt materials, application
of nanotechnology or additive manufacturing in pavement materials, Smart and multi-functional
pavement materials, recycling and reuse of pavement materials
• Climate change considerations in pavement engineering and sustainable geo-materials and coastal
resilience.
• Pavement sustainability, green technologies, and life-cycle assessment
In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate an understanding of the barriers preventing full
participation of members from historically underrepresented and marginalized student communities in
higher education. We expect to hire at the Assistant Professor rank, but exceptional candidates for the
Associate Professor rank will be considered.

service. Possession of a Professional Engineering (PE) License or the ability to obtain a Florida PE license is

Feedback Needed on Georgia Tech Student Career Needs – Faculty & Staff Listening Sessions and Survey

Overview:

The Career Center is launching a new initiative called the Georgia Tech Career Coaching Network. The purpose of the Career Coaching Network is to forge a partnership between the Career Center with faculty and staff across campus to address common career concerns expressed by Georgia Tech students. Supporting students in their career development is not limited to the walls of the Career Center, and many universities are creating “train the trainer” models to address career help students often seek from professors, staff, and other community members on their campus.

Before building a similar program at Georgia Tech, the Career Center is seeking faculty and staff feedback on common career questions they receive from students. Based on the information gathered, the Career Center will use this content to build a series of trainings for faculty and staff interested in supporting students through their collegiate career development.

Why is this important and why you should be involved?

–          Gallup studies report that having an engaging job is one of the most important factors in life because it occupies the majority of our time and plays heavily into self-identity1.

–          In a 2014 Gallup-Purdue survey of 30,000 college graduates, they went beyond the traditional measures of college outcomes (placement rates, starting salaries, etc.) to create an index that measures the relationship between students’ college experience and whether graduates go on to have great jobs, great lives and become engaged workers2.  According to this study, if graduates had a professor who made them excited about learning or encouraged them to pursue their dreams, their odds of being engaged at work more than doubled.

–          Three out of six factors linked to student confidence on jobs related to having a mentor or faculty member at their university who excited them about learning and encouraged them to pursue their goals and dreams3.

Participants Needed: Study for Doctoral URM Women in STEM

Greetings! We are a group of researchers at the University of Massachusetts Boston and Arizona State University, and we are interested in improving the STEM experiences of graduate women from diverse racial/ethnic backgrounds.

We are currently seeking participants for a short 25-30 minute research study designed to understand the first- and second-year experiences of doctoral women in STEM.

This study has been approved by the University of Massachusetts Boston Institutional Review Board (IRB #2021174).

Participants who meet the following criteria are invited to take part in this research:

●      Identifies as a PhD student in STEM (e.g., physical sciences, biology, mathematics, computer sciences, engineering, etc.)

●      Identifies as a woman from diverse racial/ethnic backgrounds (i.e., Black, Latinx, Indigenous, Asian, white, and/or Bi/Multiracial)

●      Currently enrolled in either the 1st or 2nd year of a STEM doctoral program
