Job Description:

The Bert S. Turner Department of Construction Management at Louisiana State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor effective August 2022. We seek applicants with a construction management background to conduct transformative research in one of the following areas (in priority order):  industrial facilities, power grid, facilities management, digital infrastructure, robotics, intelligent systems, decision support systems, information gathering/processes, material science or transportation. The successful candidate is expected to have a strong record of academic accomplishments and a willingness to collaborate with other researchers within and outside the CM department to expand disciplinary boundaries, and should demonstrate a strong commitment to scholarly work, sponsored research, mentoring students, supporting/advancing teaching (campus and online), and participating in service activities pertaining to the mission of the Division and advancement of the profession as well as providing service to our LSU community.

The CM department has 20 faculty and 8 staff members. This growing collection of faculty and staff combines their strengths and talents to meet the teaching, research, and outreach of the Department.  They are actively supported by a large construction industry base that has gifted funds for endowed chairs, professorships, scholarships, and discretionary funding. There are 1,302 students across four undergraduate degree programs (campus and online) that are studying to major, or intending to major, in construction or facilities management.  In addition, we have 125 graduate students working towards a Master of Science in CM (campus and online) and 38 working towards their Doctorate in CM.  The LSU CM undergraduate and master’s programs are accredited by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE). The CM Department houses three federally funded centers: Industrial Innovation Center (IIC) funded by the US Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration, Industrial Assessment Center (IAC) funded by the US Department of Energy, and the Region 6’s University Transportation Center (Tran-SET) funded by the US Department of Transportation. There are over 82 active research grants and sub-grants within the CM Department totaling almost $5 million annually.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Construction Management, Engineering, or related discipline. Completion of degree required prior to employment start date (ABDs).

The successful candidate needs to have a proven record of teaching, published research and demonstrated the ability to attract external funding.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to those with 3+ years U.S. construction experience.

Familiarity with on-line instruction is highly preferred. Candidates with construction management, construction engineering, computer science, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, or civil engineering academic experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
