Assistant Professor, Civil Engineering

Job Description
The Department of Civil Engineering at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville is seeking to fill a tenure track position in Civil Engineering at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2022. The successful candidates must have the ability to 1) teach undergraduate and graduate courses in civil engineering, 2) advise graduate students (MS and PhD), 3) establish and sustain an externally funded research program, and 4) participate in service activities.

The successful candidate will be able to teach courses in structural analysis/design, advanced steel design, structural dynamics, and finite element analysis. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in structural design with multiple materials, multi-hazard resistant design, health monitoring, and laboratory instruction.  The ideal candidate should have expertise in steel design.

Minimum Qualifications
A background allowing candidate to work with existing civil engineering faculty, including across sub-disciplines is an asset. Candidates should have an educational background that would permit licensure as a professional engineer or structural engineer, must hold at least one degree in civil engineering, possess an earned doctoral degree or ABD (all but dissertation) in civil engineering or a closely related field. Candidates for this position will be expected to be student-centered and should embrace the Teacher-Scholar model, demonstrate a commitment to promoting experiential learning, and advance civil engineering through research.

The Department of Civil Engineering at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville is seeking to fill a tenure track position in Civil Engineering at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2022. The successful candidates must have the ability to 1) teach undergraduate and graduate courses in civil engineering, 2) advise graduate students (MS and PhD), 3) establish and sustain an externally funded research program, and 4) participate in service activities.

The targeted areas of interest for the geotechnical engineering position include, but are not limited to soil-structure interaction, in situ geotechnical testing, geo-hazard assessment and risk mitigation for resilient infrastructure, geo-construction, laboratory physical modeling of geotechnical systems, and earthquake engineering. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in teaching geotechnical lecture and lab courses as well as have the ability to develop new courses to supplement current curriculum.
