CommLab’s Summer Dissertation Accelerator

Have you gotten behind on your writing the last year? Are you having trouble getting back into a regular writing schedule? Not feeling motivated? Feeling overwhelmed? Don’t know where to start?

The Accelerator (formerly Dissertation Bootcamp) is designed to help you get back on track with your dissertation ahead of the start of the fall semester. You’ll have daily check-ins for accountability, help setting goals, access to writing workshops designed specifically for dissertation writers, and access to CommLab’s Professional Consultants for individual help over the course of the week-long event. The Accelerator will take place July 19-23, 2021 from 10am-5pm with both in remote and in person options. (In-person participation is subject to space available and is offered on a first come, first served basis). The Accelerator is open to all Georgia Tech PhD students at any stage of the dissertation process.

The Sr. Deployable Structures Analyst, responsibilities you’ll act as an expert on the analysis & test aspects of deployable structures. You’ll be working across engineering teams to lead and coordinate best practices in analysis & test of deplorables, supporting junior engineers, as well as building and validating analysis models through test correlation campaigns. The ideal candidate will have significant prior experience in the space sector, with an emphasis on experience with deployable structures and mechanisms.

The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Rowan University invites applications for a non-tenure track, ¾ time teaching position for the 2021 Fall and 2022 Spring semester (September 1, 2021 – June 30, 2022). The successful candidates will be responsible for teaching innovative and project-based courses in the Civil & Environmental Engineering curriculum. Applicants with expertise in all fundamental areas of Civil & Environmental Engineering are invited to apply, however, our priority area – starting with the greatest need is Transportation Engineering.  The candidate should be able to teach our core transportation engineering course along with electives such as:

  1. Basic Transportation Engineering b) Pavement Design; c) Pavement Rehabilitation; d)  Intelligent Transportation Systems, e) Transportation Safety and Mobility.

The Department greatly values experiential and project-based learning, integrating emerging topics and technologies into the curriculum, and provides outstanding and state-of-the-art laboratories that support teaching and research. We seek individuals who are passionate about teaching and have the skills and dedication to develop innovative hands-on lab projects or other experiential learning activities using appropriate modern tools, and the ability to integrate such projects/activities into the course content. The position also includes service responsibilities, such as helping with the department’s assessment activities. Therefore, any experience with assessment, pedagogy, and scholarship of engineering education would be very valuable. A ¾ time appointment typically carries a 9-credit / semester teaching load (or 18 credits in one academic year), and pays ¾ of the applicable salary of a full-time instructor, with no other benefits.

Applicants must have earned at least a Master of Science degree in Civil & Environmental Engineering. Strong communications skills, the ability to work with multi-disciplinary student and faculty teams, and ability to teach in a project-based setting are essential. The appointment is initially for the 2021 fall semester, possibly renewable based on performance, departmental needs, and university and budgetary approvals. Applicants must have current, legal authorization to work in the United States, valid at least until June 30, 2022 and preferably beyond. The University will not support visa/immigration requests for this position.
