Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering Search for Tenure-Track Assistant/Associate Professor position in Structural Engineering

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is seeking a full-time tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Structural Engineering. Candidates, who can develop an externally funded research program that addresses civil engineering challenges related to one or more of the following areas: infrastructure resilience; structural risk assessment; design for extreme hazards; sustainable infrastructure solutions; and structural damage detection and assessment, are sought.  Experience with machine learning / AI, advanced sensing technologies, innovative materials or cross-cutting approaches will be an advantage. The candidate must also be qualified to teach structural design courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Candidates should have completed a PhD in civil engineering, or a related engineering area, in an accredited institution with emphasis on structures. The candidate should be a licensed professional engineer (PE); or one who is qualified to obtain the PE license within a couple of years. The successful candidate is expected to start in fall 2024. Candidates are expected to have demonstrated leadership and communication skills, be able to work effectively in teams, integrate research, education and service activities, and be actively engaged in leadership in professional societies. Candidates must be committed to broadening participation in Civil engineering.

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (www.usf.edu/engineering/cee/) has twenty four (24) tenure-track/tenured faculty members, two (2) full-time professors of instruction, and five (5) supporting faculty from the Center for Urban Transportation (CUTR) at USF. The Department offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees and currently serves nearly 250 undergraduates, 125 masters, and 65 PhD students. The Civil Engineering graduate program was ranked 69^th nationally and 46^th among US public universities and the Environmental Engineering graduate program was ranked 50^th nationally and 27^th among US public universities by US News and World Report (2023).

Established in 1964 and currently led by Dean Robert H. Bishop, the College of Engineering at the University of South Florida is ranked #56 among public institutions (#85 overall) by U.S. News & World Report’s 2023-2024 engineering graduate school rankings.
