The School of Civil & Environmental Engineering, and Construction Management (CECM) at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) is seeking applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor with experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the area of Construction Science and Management (CSM) and with the ability to work in a multicultural, diverse and inclusive environment, beginning August 2022. CECM is one of the five Schools/Departments within the College of Engineering and Integrated Design (CEID) at UTSA.

 The successful candidate must possess demonstrated ability to 1) work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of diverse urban populations, 2) support the University’s commitment to continue thriving as a Hispanic Serving Institution, and 3) be a role model for student success. The candidate should be interested in fostering collaborative research and education to create interdisciplinary areas of knowledge that will advance the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the area of construction science and management. In addition, the successful candidate is expected to interact strongly with MATRIX, the UTSA AI Consortium for Human Well-Being, to advance AI research and scholarship. Position description

The Department of Building, Civil, and Environmental Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of Construction Engineering and Management (CEM) with specialized knowledge in construction of large-scale intelligent facilities and expertise in one or more of the following areas: smart industrialized and hybrid construction, digital twinning applications, remote sensing and digital-physical integration for construction management, the applications of virtual and augmented reality in management of construction sites, construction automation, and applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in construction, digitalization of construction, integrated project delivery, supply chain management. Duties include research, teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, and service to the institution. This is a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, but exceptional candidates at the Associate Professor level may also be considered.  

Qualifications and assets

Candidates must have completed their PhD in Construction Engineering and Management, or closely related areas in Civil Engineering, or be near completion at the start date of the appointment. Membership or eligibility for membership in a Canadian professional engineering association, preferably in Quebec, is required.

The main criteria for selection are scholarly and teaching excellence. The successful candidate will provide evidence of high-quality scholarly output that demonstrates potential for independent research leading to peer assessed publications, industrial application of their research activities, and the securing of external research funding, as well as strong potential for outstanding teaching contributions at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Industrial experience will be a definite asset. The Department values diversity among its faculty and strongly encourages applications from women and members of underrepresented groups. The language of instruction at Concordia is English, but a working knowledge of French is an asset.

Tenure-Track Faculty Position – Vecellio Construction Engineering and Management Program

The Charles E. Via, Jr. Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Virginia Tech invites
applications for a tenured faculty position in construction engineering and management at the rank of Associate
or Full Professor effective August 2022. This position can be located in either Blacksburg, VA or in the Greater
Washington D.C. metro area. We seek applicants with emerging or established leadership experience who pursue
transdisciplinary research in smart construction and intelligent infrastructure. All areas of high impact research
are of interest with priority for advanced technologies and data analytics in the built environment, sustainable and
resilient infrastructure/communities, and collaboration in project organizations/delivery. This position is part of a
coordinated team hiring effort that spans multiple departments across the College of Engineering for a new
initiative focused on future manufacturing and construction engineering. Of particular interest are candidates with
expertise that can integrate strongly with and can provide leadership to a well-established interdisciplinary team
of faculty focused on research at the convergence of Industry 4.0 technologies. The successful candidate will be
considered for the Vecellio Professorship in Construction Engineering and Management.
The department has 53 faculty, and a current enrollment of 320 graduate students and 700 undergraduate students.
The department ranks 10th and 9th in undergraduate and graduate education, respectively, among all U.S. civil and

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering or a closely aligned field with significant
experience in construction engineering and management as an application space. We are seeking candidates with
a strong record of academic accomplishments and a proven ability to work collaboratively; experience with and
commitment to interdisciplinary research and instruction, and a willingness to expand disciplinary boundaries to
address complex technical and societal challenges. The successful candidate will contribute to instructional,
research, and service activities of the VCEMP program. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to
scholarly work, sponsored research, mentoring students, undergraduate instruction, and specialized graduate
education, including teaching practice-oriented courses. Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) is desirable
