Northern Arizona University’s Department of Civil Engineering, Construction Management & Environmental Engineering invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in the area of Water Security and Environmental Engineering.
We invite applications from candidates with expertise in water-related environmental engineering. We are particularly interested in:
- Managing water scarcity in tribal lands, rural areas, and underserved communities
- Drinking water quality in tribal lands, rural areas, and underserved communities
- The water, energy, food nexus
- Wastewater surveillance / early warning of pathogens and contaminants
- Linkages between public health, drinking water, and sanitation
- Smart water infrastructure
- Climate fragility and climate change adaptation
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build collaborations with partner units on campus, including the Department of Applied Indigenous Studies; Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals, the School of Informatics, Computing and Cybersystems; The Center for Ecosystem Science and Society; the Pathogen & Microbiome Institute; the Department of Sustainable Communities; and the School of Earth and Sustainability.
Candidates should have a doctoral degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline at the time of appointment. Candidates should demonstrate the potential for high-quality scholarship and the development of an externally funded research program as well as research opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students. Successful candidates will also participate in the continuous improvement of our graduate and undergraduate degree programs and should demonstrate a commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice (DEIJ) through their research and scholastic activities. Professional experience in engineering practice, and registration as a professional engineer are desirable.
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in their area of expertise, as well as general courses in our environmental engineering programs such as air quality engineering, solid & hazardous waste management, environmental biotechnology, and environmental transport processes.
