The Department of Construction Science (COSC) at Texas A&M University (TAMU) invites applications from qualified candidates for up to four full-time, tenured/tenure-track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor positions, with a target start date of Fall 2022. Our intent is to hire Assistant Professors but Associate Professors who have a very strong record of scholarship supported by external grants are also encouraged to apply. The successful candidates are expected to develop cutting-edge and nationally recognized research programs specific to their area of specialty, contribute to scholarly work in the construction research domain, promote students’ high-impact lifelong learning experience through the integration of research and education, and engage in professional service.
Responsibilities for this position include teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and service to the department, university, and the field, including outreach to industry. The successful candidate will be expected to teach lecture, lab, and seminar courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
The Department of Construction Science (COSC) is one of the largest and highly recognized programs of construction higher education in the world. Currently, the Department has (1) a student population composed of 1,160 students at the Bachelor’s level, 150 students at the Master’s level, and 20 students at the doctoral; (2) 32 faculty and 4 staff members; (3) the support of a Construction Industry Advisory Council (CIAC), composed of approximately 200 construction and construction-related companies; and (4) eight endowed professorships. COSC’s undergraduate program has been continuously accredited by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE) since 1978, and in 2012, the master’s program in Construction Management was the first graduate program accredited by ACCE. Both programs are STEM coded. Each year, the Department awards more than $400,000 in scholarships through the support of our partners, and conducts the largest department- level career fair at TAMU, with approximately 175 companies participating in a career fair each semester. The Department is housed in Francis Hall, a newly-renovated, state-of-the-art 35,000 SF historic building located in the heart of the campus, being the only stand-alone building for construction education in the State of Texas. Qualifications: Successful candidates must be able to demonstrate high potential and/or a proven track record to develop a nationally recognized research program supported by external research grants and contracts. Specific research areas may include but are not limited to:
- Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in construction or a closely related discipline. Candidates who will obtain their Ph.D. by the time of their appointment are also encouraged to apply.
- Construction safety: construction worker safety and health, the socio-economic impact of injuries and Illnesses of construction workers, issues of the minority construction workforce, safety risk analysis, prevention through design, intervention effectiveness, safety training, and education, etc.
- Smart construction: artificial intelligence-driven, a construction innovation, construction robotics, human and machine interaction for construction, applications of the internet of things (IoT) for construction, the role of construction in space exploration, etc.
- Sustainable construction: stronger, lighter, and more sustainable construction materials, energy and cost-efficient construction methods and technologies, modeling and analysis for energy-efficient facilities, the role of construction for sustainable communities and cities, etc.
