for progress because our multidisciplinary teams also include
scientists, economists, builders, analysts, and artists. Our
employees, working in 225 locations around the world, push
open the doors to what’s possible each and every day.
About this Scholarship

Our scholarship committee will grant two $10,000
scholarships to two exceptional students, preferably
enrolled in a civil, structural, geotechnical or other related
engineering discipline associated with the transportation
engineering industry. We will give preference to students
with a proven interest in transportation engineering. Along
with the scholarship, the student must be willing to accept
a paid internship. We will determine the location of the
internship by matching the interest of the student with an
HDR office that offers a strong mentoring opportunity for a
future transportation engineering professional. Housing and
transportation are not provided for the internship.

This position will place more emphasis on research, particularly funded research.

It is expected that the finalist’s appointment will be made at the Assistant Professor rank, but outstanding candidates will be considered for appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank.

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a closely related field by time of hire, and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Candidates must be capable of teaching courses in the undergraduate and graduate Civil Engineering degree programs. A solid proven record in publications, experience in conducting funded research (local and national and/or international), and community engagement is highly desirable.

About the Department: The UAA Civil Engineering (CE) department sits within the College of Engineering (CoEng). The Anchorage campus offers a full complement of programs and courses, including in high-demand fields such as engineering, health, business, and education, as well as in the liberal arts and sciences. UAA career and technical education programs align with Alaska’s core industries, such as engineering, aviation, oil, and gas and supports two growing programs: Bachelor of Science (BS) and Master of Science (MS) in Civil Engineering. There are approximately 150 undergraduate students enrolled in the ABET-accredited BS Civil Engineering program and 30 students in the MS Civil Engineering program. The CE department and the College of Engineering have strong ties with local industry, providing exceptional opportunities for community-engaged projects. The CE department also has an active and growing externally-funded research program, with strength in each sub-discipline.  The University of Alaska Anchorage prides itself in providing faculty with the tools and opportunities necessary to achieve excellence in teaching, research, and service while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
