Faculty position at BYU

The Civil and Construction Engineering (CCE) Department (https://cce.byu.edu/) at Brigham Young University seeks applications from highly qualified candidates for a full-time, professional, continuing-faculty-status track position in the area of construction management. Located in a new engineering building equipped with state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories, the department benefits from a strong university-wide focus on mentored research for both undergraduate and graduate students, generous annual capital equipment and supplies funding, exceptional teaching resources available through the Center for Teaching and Learning (https://ctl.byu.edu/), acclaimed international study abroad programs, impactful research programs with extensive external funding, and actively engaged alumni. With high admissions standards, the university attracts stellar students who excel in their studies and become leaders in their respective disciplines.

The Construction and Facilities Management (CFM) Program provides construction-related curriculum and research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students studying construction and facilities management, as well as civil engineering. Unlike professorial faculty, professional faculty within the CCE department are not required to establish and maintain a scholarship program. Rather, professional faculty contribute to the overall mission and goals of the CCE department by carrying higher teaching and citizenship responsibilities. The successful candidate should be able to teach a broad spectrum of construction management classes from within the CFM curriculum and must demonstrate a commitment to high-quality teaching and mentorship. The successful candidate should similarly be able to contribute in meaningful ways to service assignments both within BYU and other relevant professional organizations that benefit BYU students.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching 6-8 courses per year across a broad spectrum of CFM subject areas
  • Becoming a department leader in teaching pedagogy and curriculum development
  • Fulfilling significant department service roles including such things as student club advisor, accreditation coordinator, etc., as well as other appropriate BYU service assignments
  • Establishing and maintaining strong industry relations
  • Making significant contributions to professional societies and the construction profession

Initial rank will be consistent with qualifications and experience. The anticipated start date is Fall semester 2023. Minimum qualifications for potential candidates include an earned MS degree in a construction management-related field, project level professional experience in a construction-related industry, and effective communication skills. Preferred qualifications for potential candidates include an earned doctorate in a construction management-related field, company management and/or executive level professional experience in a construction-related industry, successful experience in teaching at the college level, and familiarity with academic processes. Candidates must have a strong commitment to BYU and its mission (http://aims.byu.edu/).

Brigham Young University is an equal opportunity employer. All faculty are required to abide by the university’s honor code and dress and grooming standards. Preference is given to qualified candidates who are members in good standing of the affiliated church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Interested applicants must complete the faculty application and attach a current curriculum vita, a statement of teaching objectives, and contact information for three professional references. Questions and correspondence should be addressed to Dr. Clifton Farnsworth, Chair, Faculty Search Committee, BYU, 430 EB, Provo, UT 84602, cfarnsworth@byu.edu.

The closing date for this posting is September 30, 2022.
