FACULTY POSITION – TRANSPORTATION
University of Maryland’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering seeks applicants for a tenuretrack position in Civil and Environmental Engineering in the area of transportation systems. This area is
interpreted broadly to include: data science and data analytics, connected and autonomous vehicles,
shared mobility, sustainable transportation, traffic systems, traffic management, air transportation,
freight transportation, public transportation among many other topics within the area of transportation
systems. The successful candidate could have an academic background rooted in any area of civil
engineering, including transportation engineering, operations research and systems engineering. We are
seeking the best candidate irrespective of specialization. Candidates with interdisciplinary expertise are
highly desired. This includes, but is not limited to, demonstrated integration of decision support,
community engagement, equity, and/or social justice into their research and/or teaching. The
appointment is at the assistant professor level.
Minimum Qualifications
All applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related field by August 2022.
Candidates should demonstrate the ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels,
guide an active scholarly research program, integrate with current research activities, collaborate across
discipline boundaries, and obtain funding from competitive external funding agencies. For best
consideration applications should be received by January 15, 2022, but later applications may be

The Transportation Program at the University of Maryland is internationally renowned with 5 faculty
members, and annual research expenditures of $21M. The CEE Department is home of the Maryland
Transportation Center (MTI), that brings together interdisciplinary transportation expertise from all across
campus, and the Center for Advanced Transportation Technology (CATT) that hosts the largest
