All-CEE Invasive Species Pull Service Event

In need of volunteer hours? Love a biodiverse, beautiful campus? Want to soak up some Saturday spring sunshine? Then come out to the All-CEE Invasive Species Pull! This service event is for all CEE undergraduate and graduate students. It will be on campus near the Mason Building on Saturday, March 9 from 9:30am-12:30pm.

Schmidt Science Fellows 2025

Please share this announcement for Schmidt Science Fellows 2025 with your students who anticipate being awarded a PhD in the natural sciences (including Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Sciences), Engineering, Mathematics, or Computing disciplines – and all sub-disciplines therein – between May 15th 2024 and June 30th 2025.

Internal competition materials (from the student nominee and faculty advisor) are both due by Sunday April 28th 11:59PM via the InfoReady system. Application link here; highlights below and details attached –

Schmidt Science Fellows 2025: 

  • The program is for (soon to be) recent PhD graduates who would like to pursue a research pivot representing a genuine and innovative disciplinary departure from their PhD studies.
  • A personal stipend of US$110,000 per year for up to two years of postdoctoral study in a different area from your PhD, at any approved location worldwide. 
  • To be eligible, you must: 
  • Be studying for a PhD in natural sciences (Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Sciences), Engineering, Mathematics, Computing – or any of the sub-disciplines. 
  • Expect to complete all requirements for the conferral of your PhD between May 15, 2024 and June 30, 2025, be able to start your Fellowship in July 2025 or October 2025 and be available from April 2025 to July 2026 to attend onboarding activities, and in-person convenings.
  • Georgia Tech has been invited to nominate up to 7 candidates for this cohort. 

GT Campus Internal Application and Deadline: 

For the purposes of this application, the student nominees are the ‘applicants’ and the faculty will be prompted to upload a letter of recommendation via the InfoReady system. GT campus nominations will be due by Sunday April 28th 11:59PM. Completed applications include:

  • Student Nominee Info and CV (1 PDF from the student nominee) laid out as follows –
    • First page:
      • Student Name; Student’s redacted GT ID # (e.g., xx3456789)
      • Student Nominee’s Faculty Advisor Name, Department and Email Address and a
      • List of only 3 References (not including the nominee’s faculty advisor) – Name, Department/Affiliation and Email Address. Note: only contact information is needed at this point – no letters from these references are required for this nomination stage.
    • Second page: A brief statement (no more than 500 words) outlining the student nominee’s motivation to pursue a scientific pivot from their PhD field to a distinctly new discipline for their postdoctoral research
    • Subsequent pages: Student Nominee’s CV
  • Reference Letter (1 PDF from the student’s faculty advisor) – outlining a brief statement (no more than 500 words) attesting to the student nominee’s qualifications, in connection to this criteria information outlined on the Schmidt website. Student nominees will not be able to view the letter.

To “Send Letter Request” in advance student nominees should begin an application in InfoReady and save a draft. Then the letter writer will receive an email containing a unique link where letters may be uploaded. The internal deadline requires that both the students nominee application (including student nominee info and CV document) and the Reference Letter are both due by Sunday April 28th 11:59PM.

GT Selected Nominees Process and Important Dates: 

  • The Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Education will make final selections for the GT nominees.
  • Once the 7 nominations are selected from Georgia Tech, the Schmidt nominee application portal will open on May 9, 2024 and nominees will have until May 30, 2024 to register their contact details and some brief information relating to their areas of research. Full applications will be due to Schmidt by July 10, 2024.
